By Lim Kim Hui and Har Wai Mun
Published by Dewan Bahasa dan Pustaka, Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, 2007. Softcover: pp. 553.
Globalisasi, media dan budaya: Antara hegemoni Barat dengan kebangkitan Asia (Globalization, media and culture: Between Western hegemony and the emergence of Asia) is the first book that discussed in detail various themes and issues of globalization, media and culture. This contemporary, systematic and academic book discusses how the communication revolution has shaped the formation of cultural identity and its effect in the era of globalization. Issues covered include globalization of politics, economy, media and language. This book also interestingly analyzes the role of media conglomerates, international institutions and the emergence of various global media such as international news agencies, Hollywood movies, satellite system, global television stations and Internet in shaping the Western hegemony. In addition, the book also critically touches on issues of Western powers, especially the United States in conquering the world through media and juxtaposes it with the emergence of Asia, especially China in countering this “tsunami” of Western information colonization.
